Bohemian Garnet Large Victorian 8K Gold Ring Pyrope Fiery Antique Rose Cut
A large 19th Century rose cut and cabochon cut fiery bohemian garnet ring in solid gold. This astonishing high Victorian gold ring is set with 16 carats of exceptional fiery garnets. The beautiful garnets look like glowing embers of a fire when the light strikes them. There are three full tiers of fine large rose cut garnets which surround a central cabochon cut gem. Every lovely garnet is perfectly matched for color to the next and is of fine gem quality. It is a larger style ring with an exceptional romantic feel to it. The top of the ring has a diameter of 1 1/8. In total it weighs 13.48 grams. Our skilled appraiser found it to be solid 10K gold when assessed despite being marked 333 which is the German 8K mark. Often times high quality pieces like this fine ring do test above karat. Currently it is a size 6 1/2 US sizing. The entire ring is hand made not cast as we see with so many Bohemian garnet reproduction pieces on the market today. It is in beautiful condition. The hand polished cabochon has a mirror like polish, it is not a perfect hemisphere as it is hand cut and there are glimpses of some natural inclusions which reach the surface when viewed obliquely in some lights. The setting itself is in mint condition. It is designed in large tiers which connect only from the two sides near the shoulders of the ring. This means that these tiers do move very slightly. They are as secure today as the day they were made more than 100 years ago! I adore garnets they have such an earthy feel to them and are so hard wearing they make a wonderful every day jewels. Historically garnets were believed to be a good stone for business and are said to be energizing. To me they feel strong and calm. Bohemian garnet pieces have been so fashionable that even to this very day they have been reproduced. This astonishing ring is an original antique piece. An appraisal shall accompany this item.
