Vintage Capo-Di-Monte Circa 1960's-70's Large Italian Porcelain Floral Bookshelf
Vintage Capo-Di-Monte Circa 1960’s-70’s Large Italian Porcelain Floral Bookshelf. Capodimonte Crown Over Neopolitan N Mark. Mint No Chips or Cracks. Approximately 19.5″ x 15.5″ x 6.5. Capo-di-Monte porcelain was first made in Naples, Italy, from 1743 to 1759. The factory moved near Madrid, Spain, and operated there from 1771 until 1821. The Ginori factory of Doccia, Italy, acquired the molds and began using the crown and N mark. IN 1896 the Doccia factory combined with Societa Ceramica Richard of Milan. It eventually became the modern-day firm known as Richard Ginori, often referred to as Ginori or Capo-di-Monte. This company also used the crown and N mark. The Capo-di-Monte mark is still being used. Capodimonte-style porcelain is being made today by several manufacturers in Italy, sometimes with a factory name or mark. The Capo-di-Monte mark and name are also used on cheaper porcelain made in the style of Capo-di-Monte. This mark was stamped on a variety of pieces including decorative objects and tableware made in the second Capodimonte factory to be established in Naples by King Charles VIIs son, Ferdinand. This is the mark most often associated with Capodimonte by dealers and collectors. It was used from 1771 until the factory closed in the early 1800s (some sources indicate a closing date of 1817, others purport 1834).
